Farmers have realised that the best route to sustainable agriculture is through the help and channelisation of cooperatives.
From this, the establishment of several agricultural cooperatives ensued, including the cooperative which now, in its 115th year, is known as NWK.
This innovative company transforms and grows with agriculture to look after the needs of stakeholders and contribute to food security.
The main objective of the group is to trade in agricultural and related products, aids and services at a retail level and to undertake associated activities. Backed by corporate principles and cooperative values, we provide financing, agricultural inputs, grain market participation, advisory services and farming technology.
Today, NWK provides means of production and equipment to producers at 54 retail stores and 10 mechanisation operating points.

North West Cooperative was transformed into a public company.

NWK became involved in financing developing agriculture.

100-year anniversary of NWK is commemorated.
A Department for Agricultural Development and Research was created in the 1970s, which supports members’ efforts aimed at increasing production. This department offers advice on matters such as crop selection, fertilisation, land potential, farming planning and guidance.
Following an investigation into the strategic positioning of the Agricultural Development department, it was restructured in 1993 to be more advice-driven and to operate in a cost-conscious manner to a greater extent. The name of the department was changed to Agricultural Management Services in 1995.
In September 2022, Agricultural Management Services decided to head into a more technology driven-direction and the name AgTech@NWK was born. The latter entered into a DJI sub-dealer agreement in 2023.
AgTech@NWK consists of a multidisciplinary agricultural team of soil scientists, agronomists, irrigation and drone specialists.
